ANOTHER URUGUAYAN PIONEER PASSED AWAY: VICENTE CURCI

We knew on January 10th, that our dear friend and UFO investigator, Mr. Vicente Curci, passed away on July28, 2013.

A heart attack –the fourth that he suffered— was the final cause of his death.

We have to add his name to the names of Hermann Jegerlehner, Walter A. Cifarelli, and Dante J. Moscatelli.

Curci was co-founder of CIOVI, he worked efficiently in the Center investigating cases, sharing the reading of books and establishing good contacts that helped with the activities of the institution.

 

He was the creator of the Center’s logotype.

He participated actively in the organization of the First (and so far only) River Plate Colloquium on UFOs, celebrated in 1962.

He traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, together with Hermann Jegerlehner,  where they met with Navy Captain Omar R. Pagani, and knew directly about the investigations developed then by the Argentinian Navy.

After some years, he left the Center for personal reasons, but he returned later and once again was ready for action.

In the decade of the 70’s he developed a very intense field investigation, traveling to the rural areas of Uruguay, specifically to the Departments of Rivera, Tacuarembó, Rocha and Lavalleja.

In the locality of José P. Varela (Department of Lavalleja) investigating a "trace" produced by Basidiomycetes mushroooms. With him --to the left-- Agronomy Engineeer Del Puerto.

We will always remember his kind smile, his will to reach an agreement when there were different points of view among the members of the Center while we were discussing a case.

And also we always remember that when American astronomer Donald H. Menzel came to Uruguay and was asked about the objects seen in the Delbert Newhouse film, Menzel said that they were seagulls, and Curci commented “well, then they were racing seagulls!”

Vicente Curci was one of the Uruguayan pioneers in the UFO field. He belonged to that group of people who build-up Ufology in the country when they created CIOVI.

Those were difficult times, when dealing with “flying saucers” as they were called, was enough reason to have to afford the mockery of journalists and people in general.

He with the other members of CIOVI worked hard and pushed to be recognized as serious investigators and to change the use of “flying saucers” for the technical designation of UFOs.

He will be always remembered as an excellent colleague, UFO investigator and student, a good father and husband, and an honorable citizen.

FALLECIÓ OTRO PIONERO URUGUAYO: VICENTE CURCI

Recientemente (Enero 10) nos enteramos que nuestro querido amigo e investigador del tema OVNI, el señor Vicente Curci, falleció el 28 de Julio de 2013.

Un ataque cardíaco –el cuarto que sufriera-  fue la causa final de su deceso.

Tenemos que añadir su nombre a los de Hermann Jegerlehner, Walter A. Cifarelli, y Dante J. Moscatelli.

Curci fue co-fundador del CIOVI, trabajó eficientemente en el Centro investigando casos, compartiendo la lectura de libros y estableciendo buenos contactos que ayudaron a las actividades de la institución.

 

Fue el creador del logotip del Centro.

Participó activamente en la organización del Primer (y por ahora único) Coloquio Rioplatense sobre OVNIs, celebrado en 1962.

Viajó a Buenos Aires, junto con Hermann Jegerlehner, donde se reunieron con el Capitán de Navío Omar R. Pagani y conocieron los archivos de casos investigados entonces por la Armada argentina.

Después de unos años, dejó el Centro por razones personales, pero retornó luego y una vez más estuvo listo para la acción.

En la década de 1970 desarrolló una muy intensa actividad de investigación de campo, viajando a áreas rurales de Uruguay, específicamente a los Departamentos de Rivera, Tacuarembó, Rocha y Lavalleja.

Siempre recordaremos su amable sonrisa, y su voluntad para alcanzar un acuerdo cuando había diferentes puntos de vista entre los miembros del Centro mientras se discutía un caso.

Y también siempre recordaremos que cuando el astrónomo estadounidense Donald H. Menzel vino a Uruguay y se le preguntó por los objetos vistos en la película tomada por Delbert Newhouse, Menzel dijo que eran gaviotas de mar, y Curci comento: “bueno, entonces ¡eran gaviotas de carrera!”

Vicente Curci fue uno de los pioneros uruguayos en el campo de los OVNI. Él perteneció al grupo de personas que construyeron la Ovnilogía en el país cuando crearon el CIOVI.

Esos eran tiempos difíciles, cuando tener que ver con los “platos voladores” como se les llamaba entonces, era suficiente razón para tener que soportar la burla de periodistas y del público en general.

Él con otros miembros del CIOVI, trabajó intensamente y presionó para ser reconocidos como investigadores serios y para cambiar el uso de “platos voladores” por la designación técnica de OVNIs.

Siempre será recordado como un excelente colega, investigador y estudioso de los OVNIs, un buen padre y esposo y un honorable ciudadano.

Que la paz sea con él.

TO INVESTIGATE AND STUDY: A PERMANENT TASK

Frequently we hear to say that the “UFO” subject is dead, that there are no cases and that therefore there is no reason to create groups to deal with the issue.

This is not totally true, there have been and there always will be UFO reports, although the more numerous now are apparently strange shapes that appear in photos or videos digitally recorded that have not been visually seen.

 

Nevertheless, those photos and videos should be considered as “cases”, they must be analyzed and the result of that study should be told to the person who took them.

But there are also reports of things seen flying at daylight or by night that for the people who see them, they are “mysterious” UFOs.

Someone has to give this people an answer. For that purpose there must be the specialized groups.

But even if there were not UFO reports, there are many other things to deal with within the UFO subject:

        -To bring correct information about the subject

        -To unmask those who speculate with the issue

        -To develop studies that go beyond the mere solving of cases

This last thing was what moved me to write this simple paragraphs and it comes out from the article written by Hourcade and published recently in this blog...

The UFO subject (now called UAP) is something thrilling and when one goes into it, it is possible to discover very interesting things...to the point that one can think that “nothing is what appears to be”.

Contributions as the article that I am referring to are very important and they make us think. 

That was the product of the effort of a real investigator, done alone. Maybe if it had been taken as a task by a group there could be more progress...But for that purpose, there is a need for a specialized group make up by people really interested in the subject as a whole.

It is possible that some day the truth about all this subject so mysterious, controversial and used with diverse purposes, by a variety of people in different opportunities and situations, will be known.

If that happens, it would be due to the effort of people or groups developing their study with tenacity, dedication, seriousness and boldly enough to be able to get in certain areas that could end to be “inconvenient”...

Evidently, this is not a task for anyone...

INVESTIGAR Y ESTUDIAR: TAREA PERMANENTE

Es frecuente escuchar que el tema “ovni” está muerto, que no ocurren casos y que por lo tanto no tiene sentido formar grupos pa-

ra tratar de estudiarlo, etc…

Esto no es totalmente cierto, siempre ha habido y habrá denuncias de casos, aunque actualmente las más numerosas sean de formas aparentemente extrañas aparecidas en fotografías o videos tomados digitalmente, que no fueron observadas a simple vista.

Aún así esas fotos o videos deben ser considerados como “casos”, anali-

zados como corresponde y el resultado de ese estudio informa-

do a quien hizo la toma.-

Pero también suelen aparecer reportes de cosas que se desplazan

en el cielo ya sea de día o por la noche y para quienes las observan se trata de misteriosos“ovnis”…

Alguien tiene que darles una respuesta. Para ello deberían estar los grupos especializados…

Pero aunque no existieran denuncias de casos, hay muchas otras cosas para abordar dentro de la temática:

        -Informar correctamente sobre la misma

        -Desenmascarar a aquellos que especulan con ella

        -Realizar estudios que van más allá de la mera resolución de

          casos

Esto último fue lo que me motivó a escribir estas simples líneas

y se desprende del artículo de Hourcade publicado recientemen-

te en este blog….

El tema “ovni” (FAI ahora) es algo apasionante y adentrándose en

él se pueden descubrir cosas muy interesantes...hasta el punto de

llegar a pensar que “nada es lo que aparenta ser”.

Aportes como el del artículo al que hago referencia son muy im-

portantes y nos hacen reflexionar.

Este es un trabajo producto del esfuerzo de un verdadero investigador, en solitario. Quizás si se encarara como una tarea de grupo se podría avanzar más...Pero para ello se necesita que exista un grupo especializado formado por gente a la que realmente le interese el tema en su totalidad.

Es probable que algún día se conozca la verdad de todo este tema tan

misterioso, controvertido y usado con diversos fines, por distintas personas en diferentes oportunidades y situaciones.

Si esto sucede, sin duda será por los esfuerzos de personas o grupos que encaran su estudio con empeño, dedicación, seriedad y valentía para entrar en ciertos terrenos que pueden llegar a ser “inconvenientes”…

Evidentemente, no es una tarea para cualquiera...
