TUBE CLOUDS IN URUGUAY

Meteorological conditions favored recently the formation of “tube clouds” –technically called “convection clouds”, over the Uruguayan coast.

It is not the first time that this phenomenon take place in that country.

In 2009 a similar one was videotaped in Punta del Este.

The phenomenon is called in English “Morning Glory”, and that is the title of the video that could be found in YouTube and that we reproduce here.

NUBES TUBULARES EN URUGUAY

Las condiciones meteorológicas favorecieron recientemente la formación de “nubes tubulares” llamadas técnicamente “nubes convectivas”, sobre la costa uruguaya.

No es la primera vez que este fenómeno tiene lugar en ese país.

En 2009 uno similar fue videograbado en Punta del Este.

El fenómeno es llamado en inglés “Gloria Matutina” (Morning Glory), y ese es el título del video que se puede encontrar en YouTube, y que aquí reproducimos.

Activities of the UAPSG Uruguayan-branch





The visit to Uruguay by Milton Hourcade paved the way for varios activities of the UAPSG Uruguayan branch.

The first was a meeting of the Executive Council of the Group at the Planetarium, on Saturday 10, 2011, where a couple of “UAP reports” were discussed and concluded.

There were also resolutions dealing with establishing good contacts with the press and to reinforce de number and disciplines of the science and technology advisors.

The meeting was attended by Rafael Forli, Prof. Fernando Gimènez, Milton Hourcade, Gonzalo Piano and Germán Vázquez.

In the following days, Forli prepared the text of the definitive conclusion about one of the cases submitted to the consideration of the Group, and Hourcade made contact with key journalists in the newspapers “El Paìs”, “El Observador” and “La República”.

On the 28th of December, 2011, the group decided to have a farewell meeting of the year, and to enjoy a moment of friendship.



The participants were: Antonio Bachi, a sky photographer, specialized in the observation of the planets and the Sun. A technical draftsman, Bachi is a distinguished member of the Iberoamerican Astronomical League (LIADA). Bachi is an experienced amateur astronomer.

Rafael Forli, a very active member of the Uruguayan Astronomical Foundation, an organization started by renowned Prof. Gonzalo Viccino. Forli is a dedicated amateur astronomer. I

Prof. Fernando Giménez, teacher of Sciences of the Earth and the Space at a Secondary Education level, and a member of the Latin American specialists Society on Remote Sensing and Information Systems (SELPER, Uruguayan chapter). He is also deeply involved in TV broadcasting of Space news.

Milton Hourcade – A journalist, he is a co-founder of the extinct CIOVI, and experienced UAP investigator and scholar. He is also a lecturer and author of 4 books on the subject.

Gonzalo Piano – He is a Computer Analyst and Software Developer.

Germán Vázquez, co-founder of CIOVI. He is an experienced UAP investigator and analyst. He is also a skilled Personal Relationist, and a very good draftsman.

Finally, and by invitation of Mr. Richard Karlen -–a person always interested in the UAP- Hourcade gave a lecture on January 5, 2012 in Maldonado city. The lecture dealt with the origins of the ET myth, how it was used along the time. A reference to his book “UFOs: The Secret Agenda” (in Spanish), the UAPSG creation and work, and the latest proposals about the UAP investigation methodology.

Actividades de la rama uruguaya del GEFAI

La visita a Uruguay de Milton Hourcade, preparó el camino para varias actividades de la rama uruguaya del GEFAI.

La primera fue una reunión del Consejo Ejecutivo del Grupo en el Planetario, el Sábado 10 de Diciembre de 2011, donde se discutieron y concluyeron un par de “denuncias de UAP”.

Hubo también resoluciones atinentes a establecer buenos contactos con la prensa y reforzar la cantidad y disciplinas de los asesores en ciencia y tecnología.

De la reunión participaron Rafael Forli, el Prof Fernando Giménez, Milton Hourcade,Gonzalo Piano y Germán Vázquez.

En los días siguientes, Forli preparó el texto de la conclusión definitiva de uno de los casos sometidos a la consideración del Grupo, y Hourcade hizo contacto con periodistas clave en los diarios “El País”, “El Observador” y “La República”.

El 28 de Diciembre de 2011, el Grupo decidió tener una reunión de despedida del año, y para disfrutar un momento de amistad.

Los participantes fueron: Antonio Bachi, astro-fotógrafo, observador solar y planetario. Dibujante técnico, Bachi es un distinguido miembro de la Liga Iberoamericana de Astronomía (LIADA). Bachi es un experimentado aficionado a la astronomía.

Rafael Forli, un muy activo miembro de la Fundación Astronómica Uruguaya, una organización iniciada por el renombrado Prof. Gonzalo Viccino. Forli es un dedicado astrónomo aficionado.

El Prof. Fernando Giménez es docente de Ciencias de la Tierra y del Espacio en Educación Secundaria e integrante de la Sociedad de Especialistas Latinoamericanos en Percepción Remota y Sistemas de Información Espacial (SELPER- Capítulo Uruguay). También está profundamente dedicado a la difusión de noticias espaciales por TV.

Milton Hourcade, periodista, es co-fundador del extinto CIOVI y un experimentado investigador y erudito de los FAI. También es conferencista, y autor de 4 libros sobre el tema.

Gonzalo Piano es Analista de Sistemas, y experto en Desarrollo de Programas para Computación.

Germán Vázquez co-fundó el CIOVI. Es un experimentado investigador y analista de casos FAI. Es también un experto en Relaciones Personales y un avezado dibujante.

Finalmente, invitado por Richard Karlen, una persona siempre interesada en el tema de los FAI, Hourcade dio una conferencia el 5 de Enero de 2012 en la ciudad de Maldonado. La exposición trató sobre los orígenes del mito ET, cómo se utilizó a lo largo del tiempo. Una referencia a su libro “OVNIs: La Agenda Secreta”, la creación y labor del GEFAI, y las últimas propuestas sobre metodología de investigación de los FAI.

New sub-atomic particle discovered

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) on the Franco-Swiss border has made its first clear observation of a new particle since opening in 2009.

Known as Chi-b (3P), it is a boson – the label given to particles that can carry the forces of nature.

The as-yet unpublished discovery is
reported on the Arxiv pre-print server.

The LHC is exploring some of the fundamental questions in “big physics” by colliding proton particles together in a huge underground facility.

Detail in the sub-atomic wreckage from these impacts is expected to yield new information about the way matter is constructed.

The Chi-b (3P) is a more excited state of Chi particles already seen in previous collision experiments, explained Prof Roger Jones, who works on the Atlas detector at the LHC.
“The new particle is made up of a ‘beauty quark’ and a ‘beauty anti-quark’, which are then bound together,” he told BBC News.

“People have thought this more excited state should exist for years but nobody has managed to see it until now.

“It’s also interesting for what it tells us about the forces that hold the quark and the anti-quark together – the strong nuclear force. And that’s the same force that holds, for instance, the atomic nucleus together with its protons and the neutrons.”

The LHC is designed to fill in gaps in the Standard Model – the current framework devised to explain the interactions of sub-atomic particles – and also to look for any new physics beyond it.
In particular, it is using the collisions to try to pin down the famous Higgs particle – another boson that physicists hypothesize can explain why matter has mass.

Discoveries such as Chi-b (3P) are an important part of this quest because they add to the wider background knowledge, says Prof Jones.

“The better we understand the strong force, the more we understand a large part of the data that we see, which is quite often the background to the more exciting things we are looking for, like the Higgs.“So, it’s helping put together that basic understanding that we have and need to do the new physics.”
