A NEW BOOK OF Eng. LUIS RUIZ NOGUEZ

Fresh ink. Just coming from the publishing company, we have received a copy of “Extraterrestres ante las Cámaras – Volumen 7” (Extraterrestrials in front of the Cameras – Volume 7) written by the UAPSG member Engineer Luis Ruiz Noguez, from Mexico.

It is a fine printed book, with a size of those for collection: 8.5 inches x 11 inches.

This is a very serious work of analysis of photos that persumably show extraterrestrial beings.

Meticulously done, Eng. Ruiz Noguez shreds each and every case and comes to the conclusion that there are not legitimate pictures of ETs.

Looking for money or publicity, simply making a joke or trying to proof the expertise of the investigators, there many reasons why some people fake pictures.

But the rigorous application of the scientific method is a great filter for all those situations.

This book is a must for the investigators and scholars dealing with the Unusual Aerial Phenomena.

We sincerely recommend it. It is written in Spanish, it is fully illustrated and has a foreword by Lic. Milton W. Hourcade.

UN NUEVO LIBRO DEL Ing. LUIS RUIZ NOGUEZ

Tinta fresca. Apenas salido de la compañía editora, hemos recibido una copia de “Extraterrestres ante las Cámaras – Volumen 7” escrito por el miembro del GEFAI Ingeniero Luis Ruiz Noguez, de México.

Es un libro finamente impreso en papel ilustración, con el tamaño propio de los libros de colección: 21 centímetros x 28 centímetros.

Este es un muy serio trabajo de análisis de fotos que presumiblemente muestran seres extraterrestres.

Meticulosamente elaborado, el Ing. Ruiz Noguez desmenuza cada caso y llega a la conclusión de que no existen fotos genuinas de ETs.

Buscando dinero o publicidad, simplemente haciendo una broma o queriendo poner a prueba la pericia de los investigadores, hay muchas razones por las cuales la gente falsifica fotografías.

Pero la aplicación rigurosa del método científico es un gran filtro para todas esas situaciones.

Este libro es obligatorio para los investigadores y estudiosos de los Fenómenos Aéreos Inusuales

A PICTURE AND…CASE SOLVED! A good work by UAPSG

Not so long ago (on November 12) a photographer from Uruguay approached us with a digital picture that showed a set of birds standing on a wire and something distant that could be anything.

It was a little dark spot.

The photographer wanted to know what it was, because he has not seen anything abnormal when he took the photo.

The picture was taken in a seaside resort.

It was during the process of downloading it to his PC when he noticed that strange spot.

Members of UAPSG started working inmediately not only in Uruguay but also in Mexico and the United States.

Few days later the mystery was solved: that strange spot came to be a bird flying with its wings folded.

The conclusion was unanimous within the international team that worked in the case.

The digital analysis of the picture was done in the USA, the verification with a databank containing photos of birds was done in Mexico, and the talk with the photographer was done in Uruguay.

It is fair to say that the photographer really wanted to know what it was, and had no interest whatsoever in make a profit selling the picture, or to get public going to the media, or putting the picture in YouTube claiming it was a UFO.

We really commend the behavior of the photographer and thank him for his good will to cooperate with our study.

The case allowed to demonstrate the efficiency of our international organization, and how it is possible to coordinate the study of a case to have an effective result.

UNA FOTO Y…¡CASO RESUELTO! Un buen trabajo del GEFAI

No hace mucho, (el 12 de Noviembre) un fotógrafo de Uruguay se conectó con nosotros con una imagen digital que mostraba un conjunto de pájaros parados sobre un cable y algo distante que podía ser cualquier cosa.

Era una pequeña mancha oscura.

El fotógrafo quería saber qué era, porque no había visto nada anormal cuando sacó la foto.

La foto fue tomada en un balneario.

Fue durante el proceso de bajar la foto a su computadora cuando notó esa extraña mancha.

Miembros del GEFAI comenzaron a trabajar inmediatamente, no sólo en Uruguay sino también en México y Estados Unidos.

Pocos días después, el misterio fue resuelto: la extraña mancha resultó ser un pájaro volando con sus alas plegadas.

La conclusión fue unánime dentro del equipo internacional que trabajó en el caso.

El análisis digital de la foto fue hecho en EE.UU., la verificación con un banco de datos conteniendo fotos de pájaros fue hecha en México, y la conversación con el fotógrafo fue hecha en Uruguay.

Es justo decir que el fotógrafo realmente quería saber de qué se trataba, y no tenia ningún interés en obtener provecho vendiendo la foto, o salir al público a tavés de los medios, o subir la foto a YouTube declarando que era un OVNI.

Realmente elogiamos la conducta del fotógrafo y le agradecemos por su buena voluntad de cooperar con nuestro estudio.

El caso permitió demostrar la eficiencia de nuestra organización internacional, y cómo es posible coordinar el estudio de un caso para obtener un resultado efectivo.

NASA-Funded Research Discovers Life Built With Toxic Chemical


WASHINGTON -- NASA-funded astrobiology research has changed the fundamental knowledge about what comprises all known life on Earth.

Researchers conducting tests in the harsh environment of Mono Lake in California have discovered the first known microorganism on Earth able to thrive and reproduce using the toxic chemical arsenic. The microorganism substitutes arsenic for phosphorus in its cell components.

"The definition of life has just expanded," said Ed Weiler, NASA's associate administrator for the Science Mission Directorate at the agency's Headquarters in Washington. "As we pursue our efforts to seek signs of life in the solar system, we have to think more broadly, more diversely and consider life as we do not know it."

This finding of an alternative biochemistry makeup will alter biology textbooks and expand the scope of the search for life beyond Earth. The research is published in this week's edition of Science Express.

Carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus and sulfur are the six basic building blocks of all known forms of life on Earth. Phosphorus is part of the chemical backbone of DNA and RNA, the structures that carry genetic instructions for life, and is considered an essential element for all living cells.

Phosphorus is a central component of the energy-carrying molecule in all cells (adenosine triphosphate) and also the phospholipids that form all cell membranes. Arsenic, which is chemically similar to phosphorus, is poisonous for most life on Earth. Arsenic disrupts metabolic pathways because chemically it behaves similarly to phosphate.

"We know that some microbes can breathe arsenic, but what we've found is a microbe doing something new -- building parts of itself out of arsenic," said Felisa Wolfe-Simon, a NASA astrobiology research fellow in residence at the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, Calif., and the research team's lead scientist. "If something here on Earth can do something so unexpected, what else can life do that we haven't seen yet?"

The newly discovered microbe, strain GFAJ-1, is a member of a common group of bacteria, the Gammaproteobacteria. In the laboratory, the researchers successfully grew microbes from the lake on a diet that was very lean on phosphorus, but included generous helpings of arsenic. When researchers removed the phosphorus and replaced it with arsenic the microbes continued to grow. Subsequent analyses indicated that the arsenic was being used to produce the building blocks of new GFAJ-1 cells.

The key issue the researchers investigated was when the microbe was grown on arsenic did the arsenic actually became incorporated into the organisms' vital biochemical machinery, such as DNA, proteins and the cell membranes. A variety of sophisticated laboratory techniques were used to determine where the arsenic was incorporated.

The team chose to explore Mono Lake because of its unusual chemistry, especially its high salinity, high alkalinity, and high levels of arsenic. This chemistry is in part a result of Mono Lake's isolation from its sources of fresh water for 50 years.

The results of this study will inform ongoing research in many areas, including the study of Earth's evolution, organic chemistry, biogeochemical cycles, disease mitigation and Earth system research. These findings also will open up new frontiers in microbiology and other areas of research.

"The idea of alternative biochemistries for life is common in science fiction," said Carl Pilcher, director of the NASA Astrobiology Institute at the agency's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. "Until now a life form using arsenic as a building block was only theoretical, but now we know such life exists in Mono Lake."

The research team included scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey, Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz., Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, Calif., Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource in Menlo Park.

NASA's Astrobiology Program in Washington contributed funding for the research through its Exobiology and Evolutionary Biology program and the NASA Astrobiology Institute. NASA's Astrobiology Program supports research into the origin, evolution, distribution and future of life on Earth.
